Empanadas, Nilla Wafer Banana Pudding, the Lower East Side

I always get excited to meet friends at the Lower East Side. It’s not an area I would normally trek to on my own, especially since the train stations are few and far between. But its got these warren of tiny streets with interesting shops at every corner that always enchants me. Cozy coffee places by day in normal-looking brownstones that turn into rocking, packed, underground dance joints at night are also quite phenomenal.
We went to A CASA FOX in Orchard Street
Friend and I feasted on fresh arugula salad, chorizo/manchego and portobello mushroom/smoked gouda empanadas, risotto croquettes and spicy garlic shrimp with cilantro and lime.
Walked around a bit and saw these traditional-looking french bistros…
And an uber-modern macaron shop (Note to self: go back here and try them once back from long trip out of the country).
Finally, we arrive at SUGAR SWEET SUNSHINE in Rivington where instead of having cupcakes, that they’re famous for (cause I am not a cupcake person at all), I tried the Nilla Wafer Banana Pudding which was described as “Stupid Good!”
And stupid good it was! Looooved the banana pudding. Couldn’t finish it in one sitting so brought it home but finished it soon as inside the front door. And promptly wished I got several more cups of it. Well….this just gives me more reason to set another date at the Lower East Side.
